I know a lot of people in the US say that it’s not the government’s job to do things in line with scriptures because that’s the job of the Church, but scripturally speaking, if a government and/or government official is claiming to be Christian, than it is their job as well. John the Baptist told tax collectors and soldiers to keep doing their jobs, but to do it without extortion or harm to their neighbors. (Luke 3:13-14)
In Paul’s letters to the Colossians, the Ephesians, and the Corinthians, he reminds us that in all tasks, we are to do them as if we are doing them for God, not for men. (Colossians 3, Ephesians 6, and 1 Corinthians 10)
Finally, Paul tells the Corinthians in his first letter that love is important in anything and everything we do. Without love, we are noisy gongs and clashing cymbals who are nothing and gain nothing. (I Corinthians 13)
