The King (Ruler)
The Proverbs 31 king is a man who does not give his strength to women. This, I believe is a reference to Sampson and his mistake in giving Delilah the literal secret to his strength.
The king should resist drinking wine and liquor. This isn’t necessarily a call to not drink, and it’s not the most important part of this section. The king is to avoid these things in order to avoid becoming forgetful of the laws and to avoid perverting the rights of all the afflicted. There is a connection to a Jesus in this part; Lemuel’s mother advises giving drink to this who are dying and/or suffering.
The king, in his governing, should speak for the rights of all who are destitute. When he opens his mouth to judge, he must judge righteously and he must defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Right now we have a ruler who is not doing these things. This is why some Christians are protesting his presidency. He is trampling on the rights of humanity and many Christians have been lead astray and believe that humanity doesn’t matter if they don’t follow the laws of the land. New Testament connection: (Thank you AWANA club) James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.
